Starfarer 3d Printed Helmet

Scope

3D Modeling, 3D Printing, Industrial Design, Prop Fabrication, Painting & Finishing, Wearable Design

Project Description

For my music project Starfarer, I set out to design a custom sci-fi-inspired space helmet to wear during live performances, an update from my previous helmet which was a basic “Cyberpunk” helmet. Using Blender, I modeled a one-of-a-kind helmet that balanced futuristic aesthetics with functionality. After printing the design in multiple parts, I assembled, sanded, and painted the helmet by hand, adding custom decals and surface details to enhance its realism and visual impact on stage.

Outcome

The finished helmet became a centerpiece for Starfarer’s live identity. The combination of intricate 3D design and physical craftsmanship resulted in a professional, performance-ready piece that elevated both stage visuals and brand storytelling.

Problem Solved

Beyond visual design, comfort and practicality were key goals. The previous helmet lacked proper airflow, leading to heat buildup and visor fogging. To solve this, I integrated a custom air circulation system, connecting a small backpack-mounted fan to the helmet via tubing. This setup directs airflow across the visor, improving ventilation and visibility while keeping the performer cool under stage lighting.
